Kenswed Hospital: A Strong Start to 2025
Kenswed Clinic continues to make a life-changing impact, starting the year with key developments in healthcare access.
Expanding Healthcare for Kenswed Students
With over 100 new students at Kenswed School, medical support is more vital than ever. The clinic has identified previously untreated conditions like diabetes, providing first-time healthcare access to many students. In January alone, 447 external patients were treated in addition to school students, with flu and stomach-related illnesses remaining the most common cases.
Community Outreach and Public Health Support
Outreach efforts continue, with one already completed this year and another planned for late February. These initiatives not only provide healthcare but also help register patients for public health insurance, ensuring long-term medical security for many families.
Maternity Services Growth
Maternity services at Kenswed have expanded significantly due to changes at the nearby Elisabeth Clinic, which now charges a minimum fee of 5,000 KES. As a result, Kenswed has already handled 32 births this year. Since 2019, the clinic has welcomed 458 babies and provided care to 30842 patients.
A Growing Team
The clinic has also significantly expanded its team since its inception in 2019, growing from 7 staff members to 16 today. A recent addition is Boniface Kahumbi, a dedicated night midwife drawn to Kenswed’s mission after receiving sponsorship throughout his own education. His presence, alongside midwife Joycelin, offers women a choice in their maternity care.
Supporting the Kenswed Girl Empowerment Program
The clinic is a vital resource for the Kenswed Girl Empowerment program, which works to rescue teen mothers and reintegrate them back to school. This year, 44 young mothers and their children have benefited from the child welfare clinics, delivery, and antenatal services. Many others seek assistance for post-birth complications, and the medical team supports their recovery, including providing dietary advice for malnourished children.
Looking Ahead
Kenswed Clinic remains committed to providing essential healthcare to the community and ensuring that financial barriers don’t stand in the way of quality medical support.
