We are happy to report that Kenswed Hospital had a great year as it focused on health education and disease prevention, with a number of successful outreach programmes delivered for the community.

With the support of Lööf Foundation, Kenswed saw 5538 patients and delivered 58 babies in 2023.

Outreach events held included:

  1. CERVICAL SCREENING

In January 2023, Kenswed offered free cervical cancer screening for women between the ages of 20 to 60 years, successfully screening 54 women who were also educated on the importance of yearly screening and the early signs of cervical cancer.

  1. MEDICAL OUTREACHES AND CAMP

Over the last year, Kenswed were able to hold two Medical Outreach Programs and a Medical Camp, where they offered their services to a total of 493 remote patients.

  1. MATERNITY FAIR

To communicate the importance of hospital delivery, Kenswed Hospital organised a maternity fair in June 2023 in collaboration with other major organisations such as Kasha Kenya and Marie Stopes. They were able to educate 30 mothers on danger signs during pregnancy, the benefits of hospital deliveries and signs of sickness in infants. A gynaecologist was on hand to answer all questions and offer free check ups to the women. Incredibly, one of the attendees gave birth to her baby the same day at the hospital!

  1. DIABETIC WALK

Kenswed Hospital participated in a one-day diabetic walk in Kiserian Kajiado in September 2023.

The walk brought awareness to the Maasai community about diabetes in children as there are high numbers of diabetes cases in children in this region. This is attributed to many factors such as malnutrition.

  1. HYGIENE

Kenswed Hospital visited Osupuko Primary School on October 13th 2023, educating students and teachers on the importance of good hand hygiene. They were reminded of the right way to wash their hands, many of whom had dropped the practice post covid.

  1. CARDIOLOGY CONDITION SCREENING

On November 4th 2023, Kenswed Hospital together with the Karen Hospital held a one-day screening for patients. The patients were educated on the early signs of cardiac diseases – with 42 patients and 4 Kenswed students screened in total.

NEW EQUIPMENT SAVING LIVES

  1. The Neopuff™ machine has been of vital importance since it was purchased in March 2023 with the help of Lööf Foundation.
  2. The Modern Maternity Delivery Bed has helped Kenswed continue to work towards its mission to provide quality healthcare, giving mothers a comfortable place to deliver their babies. In addition, it greatly reduces the risk of infections because it’s easy to clean and keep sterile.
  3. Clinic partitioning has given patients more privacy, especially in the postnatal ward, emergency room and delivery room.

The hospital staff and the entire Kenswed Organisation are grateful for the continued and unwavering support towards improving the maternal health of women in the community. Our support means that women who previously did not think they had options, now have access to dignified healthcare services at an affordable rate and a convenient location.
