Today I held a workshop with the children surrounding the topics of self-love and self-esteem. This is an important topic to instill in these children as they all come from different backgrounds. It was interesting to speak with these kids today because they have never done a workshop or had talks about good self esteem and self love before.

We started out by having them write compliments about another person and then writing compliments about themselves. They found writing compliments about others was easier, which meant that we would have to show them tools they could use to have more self love.

I spoke to them about bullies and asked if they knew why people bully others. Many said “they just are”, or “they don’t like me”. I felt happy to share with them that it had nothing to do with them, and everything to do with how the bully feels about themselves. I told them that bullies have low self-esteem and try to make others feel less, so they can try to feel better about themselves.

We then focused on self-love and spoke about loving yourself, our uniqueness, our differences and how they make us special and different. That being different is not a bad thing. In fact if we were all the same, it would be quite boring and that we need to embrace and love everything about ourselves.

Many shook their heads agreeing with what we spoke about. It was a great workshop with these kids and hopefully our discussions opened up their minds more!
