Latest Visit to Ray of Hope Home

This past week, the Loof Foundation had the joy of visiting the Ray of Hope home once again — a place that never fails to inspire us with its courage, care, and community.

We arrived with a car full of supplies for the children and staff: food staples, essential items, nappies, formula, and a few sweet treats to brighten everyone’s day. These small contributions are always received with heartfelt gratitude, and it’s an honour to be able to support in tangible ways.

A Morning of Laughter, Learning & Love

We spent the morning immersed in the simple joys of childhood — reading stories, playing outside, and sharing heartfelt conversations with Rachael, who continues to give her all to the care and future of each child.

Child Updates – Stories of Growth and Hope

Here are some beautiful updates on the children currently in Rachael’s care:

  • Bandile (almost 3 years old in July) is thriving! He’s still attending school and absolutely loving it. He’s become quite the chatterbox — full of words and personality.

  • Paula Lee, now 9 months old, has started crawling and already has a few tiny teeth showing. There’s a promising opportunity for her to be adopted overseas. The next step is a series of medical assessments and formal paperwork by the social worker.

  • Akgule, who turns 5 in August, is also being considered for overseas adoption. He’s in school and doing well, talking non-stop. However, he’s recently been struggling with some tummy issues that are being monitored.

  • Qhawe, who will be 18 months old this December, is undergoing hearing checks and a brain assessment at the Ear Institute — all free of charge. There is also a concern with one leg that isn’t bending properly, and this is being looked into.

  • Azanis, 14 months old, is currently part of a court process to determine her long-term care. Her grandmother has been considered but is unfortunately too old. A court hearing is scheduled for next week.

  • Nqobila, who turned 2 on the 25th of this month, is a happy and healthy little one with a full set of teeth. She’s not currently attending school, and although she’s ready, the social worker overseeing her case is on maternity leave, which has delayed progress.

  • Okuhle, the oldest toddler at 4 years old, is loving Preschool! He’s completely obsessed with bikes, trucks, and bicycles — a true little adventurer. His future also includes a planned overseas adoption, but he’ll be staying at the home for another year while the process is underway.

Unfortunately, due to costs, only two of the boys are currently able to attend school. This remains an ongoing challenge.

We left the home feeling uplifted yet reminded of the many needs and decisions that shape these children’s futures. Every visit deepens our commitment to support them however we can — through presence, provision, and continued advocacy.

Thank you for journeying with us.
