Lööf Foundation has received updates about the children at Home of Hope. All of them have adjusted to their new home very well. They are all eating and sleeping well! They consider themselves as one big family and have formed new friendships amongst each other. As most of the children were quite small when they first arrived to Home of Hope, we are pleased to share that each child has gained weight ranging between 1-6 kilos. Many of the children are now sharing everything in the home now as well as helping Shyam and Asha with gardening and cooking. The children who are in the same grade do their homework together, discuss and help each other with their studies. We are very happy to hear that the children have adjusted well and are all happy and healthy! Here is a personal update about each of the Home of Hope children, as well as housemother and housefather Asha and Shyam.

 

Bishek Lama:
Bishek Lama! He is 10 years old, and in grade five. He has come to Home of Hope because his father passed away from suicide, and his mother no longer lives in the village, as she had to leave to work since they are very poor. Bishek is a semi-orphan. He is very happy to come here, and thinks "it is so good". His favourite colour is red, and his favourite subject is Nepali.

Since moving into Home of Hope Bishek has been sleeping well and has not been sick. He eats four times a day and has snacks in between. He always wants to play in his spare time and has been dancing!

 

Purna Kamari Thapa:

Purna Kamari Thapa! She is 11 years old, and in grade five. Her house got destroyed during the earthquakes, and had to live in a tunnel house. Her father passed away two years ago. Her mother could not support her family as she did not have enough land or food. Purna is a semi-orphan. She has an older brother at Home of Hope, Hari Krishna Thapa. Her favorite colors are red and blue. Her favorite subject in school is Nepali. She would like to be a teacher when she grows up. In her spare time she enjoys visiting new and different places!

At Home of Hope Purna has adjusted really well. She has not missed a day of school, she eats four times a day, and has not been sick. She sleeps well, and has not had any problems with the other children.

 

Hari Krishna Thapa:

Hari Krishna Thapa! He is 13 years old. He has moved into Home of Hope because his father died two years ago, making him a semi-orphan, and his mother did not have enough land or food for her children as their home got destroyed by the earthquake, and they had to live in a tunnel house. He has a younger sister at Home of Hope, Purna Kamari Thapa. He enjoys school, and wants a good education and to become a pilot when he is older!

Hari has been doing very well in school! He is very bright and clever. In his spare time he helps Asha and Shyam with gardening, and any other tasks that need to be done around Home of Hope. He eats four times a day, and has only been sick one day with a headache. In which case he rested, and felt much better the next day! He has been getting along with the other children, except for a few small discussions where he has reached out to Shyam for help in problem solving, or to discuss how he feels.

 

Preeti Lama:
Preeti Lama! She is 14 years old and in grade eight, and her favourite subject in school is science. Her favourite colour is purple. Ten years ago her mother ran away, and her father works in another place. No one is sure where her parents are. She has been living with her grandparents who can no longer support her. She felt excited about moving into Home of Hope, and thinks it is good at Home of Hope!

Preeti has not missed any days of school, eats four times a day, and has not been sick. She has been helping Asha with cooking when she has spare time. She gets along very well with Samjhana and Binita. Shyam has said that she stays up a little too late some nights talking with the girls!

 

Shree Krishna Thapa:

Shree Krishna Thapa! He is 15 years old and in grade 10, and his favourite subject is economics. His favourite color is red. He has an older sister at Home of Hope, Radhika Thapa. Both him and his sister became orphans seven years ago, and have been living with their grandparents ever since. He enjoys playing volleyball in his spare time. He hopes to be a social worker when he is older!

The other children in Home of Hope have seen Shree Krishna as a role model. He helps Asha and Shyam with gardening. He has attended school every day, eats and sleeps well and has not been sick!

 

Radhika Thapa:

Radhika Thapa! She is 16 years old, and in grade 10. She has moved to Home of Hope because both of her parents passed away seven years ago making her an orphan. She has lived with her grandparents ever since. She has a younger brother at Home of Hope, Shree Krishna Thapa. Her favourite subject in school is science, and she hopes to be a doctor when she is older. Her favourite colour is orange. She hopes that she will have more time to study while at Home of Hope, and likes having Asha and Shyam as her house mother and house father!

Radhika has been doing very well in school with reading and writing and takes her schooling very seriously. She has not been sick and has been eating and sleeping well. She has been helping around Home of Hope with cooking and looking after the younger children.

 

Sorajacti Nepali:

Sorajacti Nepali! She is 16 years old, and is number one in her class! Her favourite subjects in school are science and English. She hopes to be a nurse when she is older. She has moved to Home of Hope because her mother passed away when she was in grade eight making her a semi-orphan. Her father could not support his children after this. She is very happy to stay at Home of Hope, and says she has more friends here than she thought!

She has been doing very well in school with reading and writing. She has not been sick and has been eating and sleeping well!

 

Aren Bhandari:

Aren Bhandari! He is 15 years old and in grade nine. He hopes to be a social worker when he is older. He has come to Home of Hope because he became a semi-orphan when his father passed away 11 years ago. His home was destroyed during the earthquakes and his mother is very poor and cannot support her family. In his spare time he enjoys playing football, volleyball, and likes to dance! His favourite colour is red, and his favourite subject in school is science.

Aren was not feeling well for a couple of days, but has received treatment and is feeling much better. He attends school everyday and eats four times a day. He has been sleeping well, except for having nightmares a couple nights.

 

Binita K.C.:
Binita K.C. She is 13 years old and in grade eight. She has come to Home of Hope because her father passed away by suicide and her mother left her to work in Qatar. Binita is a semi-orphan. She was looked after by her grandmother, however she can longer support her. She hopes to become a nurse when she is older. Her favourite subject in school is Nepali and science. Her favourite colour is pink. She thinks that everything at Home of Hope is good.

She attends school everyday and has been eating and sleeping well. She is very close to Samjhana and Preeti and sometimes stays up a little too late talking with them. She gets along with the other children and has talked to Shyam when there have been small conflicts between the children.

 

Samjhana Tamang:

Samjhana Tamang! She is 13 years old and in grade seven. She has come to Home of Hope because her home got destroyed during the earthquake, and has been living in temporary housing. Her father committed suicide, making her a semi-orphan and her mother can no longer support her. When she gets older, she hopes to become a social worker. Her favourite subject in school is English, and her favourite color is yellow. In her spare time she enjoys playing volleyball, singing and dancing!

Samjhana has only missed a half day of school as she was not feeling well, but received treatment and feels much better. She sleeps well, but Shyam has noticed she stays up a little too late talking and giggling with Preeti and Binita. She has been eating very well, however complains about eating vegetables some days.

 

Laxmi Tamang:

Laxmi Tamang! She is five years old. Her father passed away from yellow fever when she was two months old. Her mother is 46 years old and can no longer support her. She is a semi-orphan. She is a very talkative little girl, and enjoys playing with toys!

Since living at Home of Hope, Laxmi has started school. She now knows the whole alphabet and is doing very well in school! She feels better living at Home of Hope and does not miss her mother. She has not been sick and has been eating and sleeping well. She has also gained two kilos of weight since living at Home of Hope! Laxmi has become very good friends with Puja and plays together with her all of the time! Many of the children at Home of Hope say that typically if you see Laxmi, you’ll see Puja very close by.

 

Puja Tamang:
Puja Tamang! She is seven years old and in grade three. Both of her parents passed away on the same day when she was one and a half years old. She lived with her two cousins who took care of her, as she has no other family. Her favourite colour is red. Her favourite subject in school is science. She hopes to be a social worker when she grows up! In her spare time she enjoys playing with teddy bears!

Puja has attended school everyday and is doing much better in school. She has been going directly to Shyam whenever she needs help with something. She eats five times a day, has not been sick and sleeps well as she sleeps with Sorajacti most nights. She has become very close friends with Laxmi, and plays with her whenever she has spare time.

 

Sunita Tamang Lama:
Please meet Sunita Tamang Lama. She is 14 years old, and in grade six. She has one older brother. Both her mother and father ran away. Her mother ran away when she was one and a half months old, so she has been living with her grandmother who is very old and can no longer take care of her. Her favourite subject in school is Nepali and English. Her favourite colours are red and blue. In her spare time she enjoys dancing, and hopes to become a doctor when she is older.

Before moving into Home of Hope Sunita had missed a year and a half of school due to family circumstances, putting her in grade six. Since being in Home of Hope, she has moved up to grade seven in school and is doing very well. She enjoys doing her homework and studying now. She has expressed she is really happy living at Home of Hope. Shyam has commented that she has changed positively since when he had first met her! She has been eating and sleeping well. She has made many new friends with the other children. Sunita had not been feeling well for a couple of days, but has received treatment and is feeling much better! Many of the Home of Hope children call Asha and Shyam “Aunt and Uncle”, however Sunita calls them “Mom and Dad!”

 

Asha (housemother):

Asha has been enjoyed taking care of the children and has not been sick or very tired. She talks about her own life experiences with the children and is happy taking care of them. Her and Shyam have very good communication with each other concerning the children.

Shyam Lama (housefather):

Shyam expressed that he is so happy with the children and sees them as friends. He said that each child is different and tries to accommodate for each of their individual needs. He shares many of his own personal experiences with the children to help them learn about life. He thinks that Home of Hope will give the children a better chance at life and considers them as his own children now!
