Welcome to Imisebe Yelanga: Ray of Hope Transition Home for Babies

Their Story

Immanuel Church felt a deep calling to support abandoned babies in the community. Responding to this need, the church purchased and renovated a house specifically designed to serve as a nurturing home for these vulnerable children. This initiative led to the establishment of Imisebe Yelanga, a registered NPO.

Their Mission

Imisebe Yelanga’s mission is to provide a loving and stable home for abused, abandoned, neglected, and HIV-positive babies and toddlers up to 36 months old. They also accommodate children beyond this age when necessary, ensuring they can attend a local crèche or pre-school.

Their Home

Located on a quiet cul-de-sac in a safe neighborhood, the house has been beautifully renovated and includes a separate flat occupied by a mature couple who serve as house parents. Rachel, the dedicated house mother, oversees the daily operations with a passionate commitment to the well-being of the children. The team includes a day caregiver, alternating night caregivers, a weekend caregiver, and dedicated volunteers, all selected for their character, skills, and health.

Their Goals

  • Provide a Loving Home: Their primary goal is to offer a nurturing environment where children feel special, loved, and significant.
  • Facilitate Adoption: They work closely with the Department of Social Welfare to transition children into adoptive families or long-term foster homes.
  • Self-Sufficiency: They aim to become financially self-sufficient, with a vision to expand and open additional homes in the future.

Governance and Accountability

The home is regularly audited by Durban Social Welfare and managed by a committee of trustees, including an elder from Immanuel Church. The trustees ensure financial transparency and accountability, guided by a formal constitution and registered as an NPO.
