Empowering Futures: Inspirational Visit to Ekuseni Hluluwe School
On April 4th, the Lööf Foundation visited Ekuseni Hluluwe School. Patrik Lööf, accompanied by his mother Lena and his children Axel and Holly, made the trip to meet with the school community. They were greeted by Principal Nkumane, the Star For Life Coach Silindkuhle Dude, and maths teacher Mgwazi.
Ekuseni Hluluwe School has approximately 1020 students, with about 100 of them receiving special attention due to challenging home environments.
During the visit, the Star For Life Coach held sessions with various classes, emphasising the significance of the Star for Life colours and their meanings:
Yellow: I go for my dreams This color symbolizes the pursuit of a better life. It inspires students to transform ambitious dreams into realistic goals and routines, fostering positive attitudes and behaviours.
Red: I am AIDS-free Representing health promotion and the fight against HIV and AIDS, this colour combats stigma. Students learn that those with HIV can stay healthy and free from AIDS by taking antiretroviral drugs.
Black: I decide Emphasising personal choice, especially in resisting pressures related to sex, alcohol, and drugs. This colour also focuses on empowering girls to challenge traditional gender norms.
Green: I am committed Change is difficult, but this colour teaches methods to maintain motivation and resilience, even when facing setbacks.
Blue: I make it possible Encouraging students to take personal responsibility for their success despite life’s injustices. Their choices and behaviours significantly impact their ability to achieve their dreams.
White: I listen to my conscience This colour encourages students to heed their inner voice when making important decisions, promoting integrity and responsibility in their actions.
During the last visit, the school mentioned that the kitchen stands for the learners were broken. The Lööf Foundation has since repaired these stands.
The school also provided a wish list of stationery, which included glue, pencils, erasers, maths sets, and A4 workbooks.
This visit not only strengthened the bond between the Lööf Foundation and Ekuseni Hluluwe School but also addressed immediate needs and reinforced the Star for Life program’s values.
