International Women’s Day!
Happy international women’s day!
Today is a day to celebrate all women no matter their race, culture, ethnicity, nationality, language, economy or political affiliation. It is a day to celebrate social, economic, cultural and political achievement of women both in history and women today.
The earliest women’s day events were held in New York in 1909 on February 28. A year later at the International women’s conference in Copenhagen, it was suggested that there be an international women’s day. They agreed to mark one day of the year to promote equal rights to women and allow them to vote in political elections. In 1913 the date was moved to March 8 to officially be International Women’s Day. Each year since, women have come together globally to celebrate social, economic, cultural and political achievement of women. In 1975 the United Nations officially stated that March 8 is international women’s day and started to sponsor it.
Every person on this earth knows a woman, whether that be a mother, sister, friend, co-worker, neighbor, etc. It’s important that we take time to celebrate and praise women for all accomplishments, no matter how big or small. Many women face adversity, discrimination, unequal pay, sexual harassment and more each and every day. Whether a woman suffers silently, or speaks out, it is important to celebrate the victories women accomplish each day.
The theme for this year is #pressforprogress. One way that Lööf Foundation will “press for progress” is by continuing to motivate, uplift, inspire, educate, and help women no matter where we go.
